In a stunning revelation, UFC commentator, analyst, and former middleweight champion Michael Bisping has made a surprising choice for the title of the best boxer in the UFC. While the promotion is home to a plethora of elite strikers, Bisping’s preference has turned heads, especially considering the remarkable talents currently in the octagon.
Michael Bisping Revealed New Pick For UFC’s Best Boxer
The UFC boasts exceptional talents like Petr Yan, famed for his strategic angles and body shots; Max Holloway, whose relentless volume and impeccable timing can demoralize any opponent; and Dustin Poirier, a southpaw with deadly combinations and knockout prowess. Yet, Bisping has opted to overlook these formidable names in favor of Jack Della Maddalena.
During a recent segment on the Bohnfire podcast, host Mike Bohn discussed the pre-fight odds for an upcoming welterweight title match between Della Maddalena and reigning champion Islam Makhachev. The odds heavily favored Makhachev. Bisping found this a bit “disrespectful” to Della Maddalena, setting the stage for his praises of the rising star.
As Bisping pointed out, “When you look at Jack, I think he lost his first two fights but since then, undefeated, he’s big. He’s a big guy. A true welterweight.” His assessment of Della Maddalena’s boxing skills was particularly glowing: “He can box, man. His boxing is beautiful and probably the best boxing in all the UFC.”
“His takedown defense is very, very strong and his footwork is incredible to watch…”
Bisping elaborated further on Della Maddalena’s attributes: “His takedown defense is very, very strong and his footwork is incredible to watch. It’s the kind of footwork you need to pivot, angle, and stay away from the fence. He’s not going to throw too many kicks either, because of that boxing style, which is going to be key in this match-up.” While acknowledging Makhachev’s significant advantage as a favorite, Bisping’s faith in Della Maddalena’s skills is evident.
The much-anticipated fight will take place on Saturday, November 15th, at UFC 322, hosted at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City. The card is packed with thrilling matchups, including a title fight between women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko and Zhang Weili, as well as a clash between former welterweight champion Leon Edwards and Carlos Prates.
Additionally, fans can look forward to witnessing promising talents like Bo Nickal making his debut on the prelims, where he’ll face Rodolfo Vieira, alongside Erin Blanchfield squaring off against Tracy Cortez.
