Sub Focus Unleashes New Album "Contact": A Musical Journey Through Time and Space
The UK DJ and producer Sub Focus has dropped a highly anticipated new album titled Contact, showcasing an exciting evolution in his sound. This album features 14 vibrant, vocal-driven tracks that boast collaborations with acclaimed artists like Grimes, Fireboy DML, John Summit, Katy B, IRAH, bbyclose, Poppy Baskcomb, and Connie Constance. Released via Casablanca Records, Contact promises to be a standout entry in Sub Focus’s discography.
A Diverse Musical Palette
Contact is more than just an album; it’s a sonic experiment that seamlessly blends various genres. Sub Focus, born Nicolaas Douwma, has merged elements of electro, trance, dancehall, and drum & bass to chart bold new territory. One of the standout tracks, “Push The Tempo,” featuring Katy B, marked a significant milestone in Sub Focus’s career by becoming his first #1 hit on US dance radio. Another notable track, “Go Back,” which fuses John Summit’s progressive house with Sub Focus’ signature tempo shifts, has garnered over 151 million streams globally, emphasizing its widespread appeal.
Thematic Exploration and Artwork
The creative direction behind Contact delves into nostalgic themes, exploring retro futurism and the technology of the space race era. The inspiration draws heavily from the Golden Record sent into space during NASA’s Voyager mission in the 1970s, a thoughtful nod to humanity’s aspirations and creativity. The album artwork and vinyl packaging have been meticulously crafted in collaboration with renowned photographer Neil Krug and the design agency Big Active, encapsulating the essence of Sub Focus’s artistic vision.
A Prolific Career
Contact marks Sub Focus’s fourth solo studio album, following three British certified Silver albums: his self-titled debut Sub Focus (2009), Torus (2013), and the UK Top 40 album Evolve (2023), which included the Gold-selling single “Ready To Fly.” Additionally, in 2020, Sub Focus partnered with fellow English producer Wilkinson to release the collaborative album Portals, further showcasing his versatility.
Live Performances and Future Endeavors
The immersive “Circular Sound” show has captivated audiences, with sold-out performances at iconic venues like London’s Alexandra Palace and Los Angeles’ The Shrine. A career highlight came when Sub Focus performed his largest set to date at the Glastonbury Festival, where he closed the IICON stage. Earlier this fall, as part of the WORSHIP collective, featuring Dimension, Culture Shock, and 1991, Sub Focus made history as the first drum & bass act to headline and sell out the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. Looking ahead, the WORSHIP collective is set to take the stage at Coachella and Ultra Music Festival in 2026.
